About Dr. Gui

Wei “Wayne” Gui, MD is an Ivy League-educated vitreoretinal specialist and surgeon who strives to improve the lives of patients with vitreoretinal diseases with compassion, utilizing the most advanced medical and surgical therapies. He is humbled to be entrusted with taking care of patients’ vision and aims to treat each and every patient like a member of his own family.

Growing up in the Greater Toronto Area in Canada, Dr. Gui had the privilege to interact with people from all walks of life. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science and Highest Honors in Research from Cornell University and received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Gui completed his ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at the world-renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, where he won the Jules Stein Eye Institute Fellow Excellence in Research Award. 

Dr. Gui is board certified from the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and Orange County Society of Ophthalmology. He has given numerous podium presentations at international conferences and has over 20 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He serves as a volunteer UCLA clinical faculty member teaching medical retina to UCLA ophthalmology residents and surgery to UCLA retina fellows at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and MLK Jr. Community Hospital. Additionally, he volunteers in the retina clinic at Serve the People Community Health Center and Orange County Eye Project Clinic to help treat the underserved population in Orange County.

Outside of the clinic and operating room, Dr. Gui enjoys playing basketball and tennis and loves traveling, photography, and spending time with his wife and family. He is fluent in Mandarin as a foreign language.
